FabberGrip ALPHA

The FabberGrip ALPHA is a grip for recurve bows. The two pronounced edges, the symmetrical construction and the concave contact area allow a perfect pressure point control (if the right hand position is used).

As part of the Fabber product range, the FabberGrip ALPHA is a purely digital product. The central component is geometry data in STL format, from which real grips can be created using 3D printing. In addition to this geometry data, there is an (extended) PERSONAL USE license and a detailed tutorial with interesting additional information about the overall package.

Each data set of the FabberGrip ALPHA contains a total of 35 different STL models, which result from the combination of seven inclination angles (32-44°) with five widths (21-27 mm).

Basic Ideas of the FabberGrip ALPHA

Free Choice of Colour

By 3D printing at home (or at a service provider), the color of the grip can be freely selected. To match the bow, to match the outfit or simply to suit today's mood - everything is possible.

Size Variety

Standard grips are often too large. This is because small hands somehow fit in large grips, but big hands never fit in small grips. With three different sizes, the FabberGrip ALPHA offers the possibility of selecting the basic grip size to suit (almost) every hand:

The sizes 27, 30 and 33 describe the circle diameter (unit: mm) at the pivot point of the grip.

Variety

The grip is the most important interface to the bow, so it should fit the archer down to the last detail. Since hands are just as different as people, a single standard grip can never meet this claim.

In addition to the three fundamentally different sizes, the FabberGrip ALPHA also offers an extreme variety of variants, which results from the combination of seven inclination angles (32-44°) with five widths (21-27 mm).

By trying and varying, it is possible to find the perfect fit for (almost) every hand.

Thumb Gap

The thumb gap is a distinctive feature of the FabberGrip ALPHA. It creates space for the front part (and especially the front joint) of the thumb. The FabberGrip ALPHA feels much more streamlined and ergonomic than other grips.

Concave Contact Zone and Perfect Symmetry

The contact zone of the FabberGrip ALPHA has a concave shape, i.e. the grip curves inwards by approx. 1 mm in the area where the ball of the thumb rests. At the same time, the contact zone is perfectly symmetrical to the center of the grip (and thus also to the center of the bow).

Compared to the otherwise widespread convex and asymmetrical shape, the pressure point in the bow hand can be felt much better and placed more precisely thanks to the geometry of the FabberGrip ALPHA.

3D printing has an advantage here over classic manufacturing processes (e.g. injection molding), since this geometry can only be produced in an extremely complicated manner, even with mechanical post-processing.

Support for Optimal Hand Posture

In the "Olympic Recurve" discipline, a relaxed, open bow hand inclined by about 45° has proven to be a recipe for success for many years.

Contact with the bow is mainly established via the ball of the thumb, beyond the life line, contact with the grip should be avoided.

The FabberGrip ALPHA supports this hand position insofar as its pronounced outer edges create an uncomfortable feeling in the bow hand if this proven hand position is not adopted. This means that the FabberGrip ALPHA is unsuitable for shooting with a closed bow hand or with full-surface contact over the entire palm.

The FabberGrip ALPHA is specially designed for shooting with a relaxed, angled and open bow hand, in which contact with the bow is only made via the ball of the thumb.
